1.4 Million Realtors, and We Just…

…get a few thousand hits a day to the very best of the real estate blogs.

Seems like an epic disconnect there.

The Happy Meal of Real Estate Blogging

May 31st, 2007 Deeper Thoughts, Geekage and Blogging 4 Comments »

PotentialThere are too many real estate blogs to follow on the Internet.

Thats not even considering places like Active Rain where 20,000+ people have signed up. I’m talking just your everyday garden variety “here I go on my platform” blog.

It’s just physically impossible to visit them all in a day, let alone read them all, even in a feed reader. It was maybe possible six months ago, it’s 100% impossible now. The choice is overwhelming like a food court in a megamall is. Faced with over choice, most consumers choose something comfortable, reliable, standardized. Something like a McDonalds Cheeseburger. It may not be the best option in the food court in terms of taste and expense, but people buy them constantly.

Billions and Billions served I believe is the phrase.

So…

One of the things I’ve decided on doing with the blog is working on creating a standardized product. Almost every blog I know goes through phases of high posting and low posting, good posts and lame posts. Coming up with a standardized daily posting schedule is meant to combat that. All I’m aiming for is for people to just know what they will be getting when they get my RSS feed, or visit the site.

I’m thinking of essentially turning out a daily Happy Meal of posts.

WTF44The Bad MLS Photo of the Day – Those are the fries. Total junk food and a guilty pleasure. Admit it, you love them.

The Feed Bag – Thats the cheeseburger. The bulky part of the meal. Something to chew on.

A Daily Thought – Thats the drink. Sometimes it will be sweet and bubbly, others thick and creamy, just plain water, or a jolt of coffee. Just something from my noggin, or someone elses, that I share.

Something Just For Fun or Otherwise Cool – Thats the toy that comes with the meal.

Sound good?

The truth of the matter is not a single one of those post ideas are anything special. Anyone can post a crappy photo. Anyone can whip up a bunch of links as a Feed Bag. Anyone can post a thought. Anyone can link a YouTube video or whatever else interesting.

It’s the doing it everyday thats the trick.

All I can say is wow.

I wonder how much it will all cost though.

Hat tip to Joel Burslem. There were some other YouTube videos on this topic, but they made me sleepy…

The Copyblogger Writing Contest Results hat tip to the Sellsius summary called How to Attract Filthy Rich Clients.

Freakanomics Blog discusses Street Names and Property Values.

Chris Iverson at Three Oceans makes a compelling case that Real Estate Newspaper Advertising is Dead.

Tom at The Real Estate Bloggers talks about The Double Thank You and makes a good point.

John Keith at the Boston Real Estate Blog gets an offer to turn to the dark side with I’ll Pay you $7000 if you Pay me $10,000

Tony Gallegos at The Mortgage Cicerone wins a promotion to My A-List. Todays fare was exceptional as per usual. You you haven’t gotten his RSS feed yet, shame on you.

The A-List is viewable under MyBlogLog widget in the sidebar. It’s a fluid list with blogs moving in and out of it essentially at my whim. Almost everyone gets a blogroll from me, but the A-List is my current picks for overall quality, frequency and interest level.

RssiconOk I’m getting embarrassed by my love for Tony Gallegos who is required reading with Are you Mining the “Acres of Diamonds” in your Database?

Jeff Turner has a great point of view in Your Photos May Need a Change in Perspective on Active Rain. Some of the best stuff is in the comments. (Point of view… I made a funny!)

Drew Meyers is raving how Facebook is Completely Changing the Internet predicting users fleeing MySpace to Facebook. “Which I really do think will happen - after all, how many die-hard, passionate myspace users do you run across?).”

McFlurrys Will No Longer Kill Hedgehogs hat tip John Lockwood

Realview had a good piece on How To Choose a Realtor hat tip Maureen Francis

Teresa Boardman has a news flash for buyers…. other people make offers too. So Don’t Let the Big One Get Away.

Blurry Thumb For The Win

May 29th, 2007 Family Life No Comments »

I keep a little sitemeter down in the footer. A couple days ago the damn thing went berserk. About a +700% readership spike in a single day.

WTF40Obviously I wrote a really amazing post that day and it set the real estate blogosphere into a frenzy with my insight. Personally I thought Zillow Prediction: Appraisal Franchises was brilliant. [The comments = Crickets Chirping]

Actual cause of readers swarming like locusts? Grow-a-Brain linked to Bad MLS Photo of the Day #28.

<———— That One.

Blurry Thumb > Anything Else I ever did on the blog. Gotta love that.

But anyways, that all leads to…

Now The Circle Is Complete

Now don’t get me wrong, I love Jim Cronin at The Real Estate Tomato (Points to “A-List” on blogroll), heck I even used him for updating myself with A Tomato Blog Platform.

But seeing myself somehow, if only fleetingly, pulling more peeps than the Tomato. Well I had to take a screenshot. :-)

For what it’s worth. Thanks Jim & Co.

RssiconAs much as the word Redfin is starting to make me feel a headache coming on, Trevor Smith, an actual living breathing Redfin agent (poke poke) is interesting in It Ain’t Just About Redfin.

The Carnival of Real Estate is up. I have no idea why that bores the hell out of me. Specially as there is no difference whatsoever between the CoRE and this very post.

Jim Kimmons is vastly under read and has been laboring away breaking down the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission Report into bite size pieces.

Tom at The Real Estate Bloggers has Top 10 Tips For Photographing a Home For Sale. Some good ones in there.

Tony Gallegos of The Mortgage Cicerone (I recently discovered his blog and wonder how I missed it for so long) is good on What Makes a Good Blog.

Jeff Allen of the Minneapolis Association of Realtors is very insightful in Market Shift: What is the Culprit? (Hat Tip to Aaron Dickinson

Last but not least, Kris Berg is the smartest confused person in real estate noting Bad photos, no photos, misspelled and poorly crafted ad copy, no ads, agent email addresses ending in @aol.com, no agent email, and the list goes on. with Fame is Proof that People are Gullible. I feel your pain Kris.
